Still Lurking…

Just wanted to let you know that, despite my now-longstanding silence, I still read and thoroughly enjoy my dashboard every day. Thanks for posting, sorry I’m freeloading, keep it up, etc. etc.

The show is about having fun, partying, rolling around, rolling over, piling up, skipping forth, and ambling about,” W.K. told Stereogum. “In addition to that movement, we also dance, strut, talk, ponder, and probe deep into the questions about life and how to live it.

A question of the utmost importance

sunplusnightplusjess:

I’m thinking about making an apple pie this weekend (sorry, Mr. Smouth!).

What kind of ice cream should I make to go with it? (Vanilla is not an acceptable answer.)

Obviously Maple-Walnut. Or Cheddar, if you want to get tricky.

That main thing went well…

fiatluxemburg:

But everything else not so much:

  • It’s 56-41 in the senate right now, with three races outstanding and all leaning republican: Oregon (when it looked like Democrats were headed for a fairly easy win), Georgia (where Chamblis needs 50% to avoid a run-off and it’s both very close and a little fuzzy), and Alaska (where convicted felon Ted Stevens seems to be ahead).
  • Minnesota has been called for Coleman but it loos like a recount may be coming.
  • Also in Minnesota, Michelle Bachmann seems to have held onto her seat.
  • Proposition 8, the California gay marriage ban, also seems to have passed.

And at the top of the ticket: Some have called Indiana, others not quite. North Carolina and Missouri are also not quite official, with the first looking like it’ll go to Obama and the second to McCain. Hopefully Obama will take at least Indiana or North Carolina, otherwise he just had a good night running the table on acknowledged battlegrounds (but losing Missouri means not quite). He has to win Indiana or North Carolina to have really done anything profoundly map changing.

Obama beat McCain soundly and that’s very good. The broader, transformational “wave” election didn’t really happen.

Good sum. Also, most people voted for the dogs in MA.

Been browsing through info on Ballotpedia in hopes of finally figuring out the proper opinion to have about MA ballot initiative #3, a proposal to prohibit greyhound racing in the state.
The other two initiatives are pretty easy votes (should we repeal the state income tax? should we decriminalize marijuana?), so, as a long-time listener, first-time voter, I was looking forward to a stress-free voting booth experience. But now I’m fatutzed: how can I possibly weigh in on an issue that pits man (who gets employed to put greyhounds in really tiny cages) against man’s best friend (who looks really sad in all of the cage-pictures)?
This is a very heated issue for the cupcake class. I’m pretty convinced by the Crimson Editorial, which cautions against value-based intervention in a heavily-regulated industry that’s dying quickly anyways, but then I keep thinking of the main endorser’s slogan, “vote for the dogs.” How can I not vote for the dogs???

LolCat Artshow documentary. I especially like when they try to explain the joke, 1:24-1:43 (“plus it’s cats”).
